Since 1948 there have been 22 different incarnations of the Four Freshmen. They’ve had multiple Grammy nominations and dozens of albums over the years. They even have their own Four Freshmen Society which holds a convention every year. They also seem to have the distinction of being the only group in the history of jazz who did not record the song “Isn’t This A Lovely Day.” I chose a 1964 video of the song “Day by Day.” I can definitely hear the Four Freshmen influence in the Beach Boys harmony.
Here in Smallville it would be terribly rude not go over and chat with someone you knew at a restaurant. Heck folks will even stop and talk to dining strangers if they look friendly enough. Around here if you want to dine in peace you stay at home! I bet it’s not unusual to see famous folks dining at some LA delis. But if you spot someone I bet you stay in your seat and you keep your fan giddiness to yourself! I don’t know if Q’s ever chatted with Brian Wilson. I’d still say eating a sandwich in the same room entitles you to say you’ve dined with a Beach Boy.
Shockingly bad Laffy Taffy style riddle of the day:
Q: What does a Beach Boy eat order at the deli?
A: The Turf n Surfin’ Subfari!
Thank you, thank you, I’m here all week.
