Wonderful Tunes Provided By Friends. Wild Tangents Provided By Me.

I’ll get to the point in a minute but first I whine. I can not for the life of me find the name of the song in this clip! I know it’s done by the Chico Hamilton Quintet. I know that the actual guitarist is John Pisano and not “Adam 12’s” Martin Milner but I don’t know what the song is called. There are samples of almost all the songs on the soundtrack on Amazon but not this one. I’m sure they do that just to drive me nuts. If I had to venture a guess I’d say this song is probably “Nite Spot Rock” but I won’t be buying the soundtrack so I’ll never know for sure.

Now back to our regularly scheduled point: It saddens me too that so many brilliant musical minds were taken from us too soon. We are fortunate that they left us such beautiful legacies despite their various personal tragedies.

As an interesting side note, since we were talking about death, I looked up the members of the Chico Hamilton Quintet. It turns out all but one of them are still alive! Bassist Carson Smith passed away in 1997 at the age of 66. Still young by today’s standards but ancient for a jazz musician! Chico Hamilton (drums), Paul Horn (flute), and John Pisano (guitar) are all in their 80’s and Fred Katz is in his 90’s! Here’s hoping they are all still enjoying good health so we’ll have them around for a bit longer.
