RIP Captain Beefheart

Until tonight I had never heard of Captain Beefheart but, if my various social networking feeds are any indication, I am pretty much alone in my ignorance. He was born Don Glen Vliet but later changed it to Don Van Vliet. His music was a mix of atonal melodies and surreal lyrics and his album “Trout Mask Replica” was number 58 on Rolling Stone’s 500 all time greatest albums list. In 1982 he retired from music to pursue a very successful career as a painter. He died today after a long battle with Multiple Sclerosis.

Rest In Peace Mr. Van Vliet.
