Wonderful Tunes Provided By Friends. Wild Tangents Provided By Me.

Remember Eduard Khil?

I wrote a blog post all about how this was some sort of traditional Russian singing style called vokaliz. Turns out that was bull puckey! That was just the party line given at the time. I believe. The real scoop was they wouldn’t let him sing the actual lyrics to the song because they were deemed too “western” for Soviet audiences. You can watch a subtitled interview about it on You Tube.

A friend found a Huffington Post article about a video remake by Mr. Khil. They think it’s sure to go viral!

Honestly, how can you watch this clip and not love this man! He’s retired now but he was a star with several hits before this wonderful, silly thing went viral. I am seriously thinking about trying to find an address to send him a Google translated thank you (Спасибо, господин Хиль) note for being such a good sport about all this!

P.S. Khil was not the first person to sing this song. You can watch the original version on You Tube too.
