Wonderful Tunes Provided By Friends. Wild Tangents Provided By Me.

Ruth Buzzi is probably best known for the funny and memorable characters she created on “Rowan and Martin’s Laugh In” but she actually got her start in musical theater. I thought it would be fun to highlight her musical talent It’s actually a bit difficult to find serious clips of Ruth showcasing her vocal chops. But there are a few out there. In the end I decided to go with a “Laugh In” number because it’s funny, fabulous and current and topical for the kids!

My decision to post Ruth Buzzi today has absolutely nothing to do with the fact that she occasionally compliments my quips on Twitter. Oh who am I kidding, that has EVERYTHING to do with it! Every time she talks to me it’s like my inner child’s TV reaches out and gives her a big hug! I watched Ruth in the mornings on Sesame Street, in the afternoons on cartoons, in the evenings on variety shows, and every weekend courtesy of Sid and Marty Kroft. I watched her on “Laugh In” first though. Before I could even begin to understand any of the jokes, Gladys Ormphby made me laugh by smacking people on the head with her purse. I don’t care who you are, that’s comedy at any age!
