Wonderful Tunes Provided By Friends. Wild Tangents Provided By Me.

I mentioned Frank DeVol back on 3/9 and realized we had no posts about this wonderfully talented man. Frank was a musician, an arranger, and a band leader but he was probably best known for his movie score and television theme compositions. He penned the scores for movies like “Cat Ballou,” and “Guess Who’s Coming To Dinner.” He also wrote the memorable theme songs for “Family Affair,” “The Brady Bunch,” and “My Three Sons.” Frank was also a great comic actor. Here he is playing bandleader Happy Kyne on the 1977 show “Fernwood 2 Night.”

I didn’t really get “Fernwood/America 2 Night” when it was on the air. I was young and dumb at the time so that’s not surprising. Now that I am old and dumb though I’ve taken the time to watch a lot of clips from the show on You Tube and it was freakin’ hilarious! In this, the age of the TV/movie reboot, this show is just screaming to be remade!
