Wonderful Tunes Provided By Friends. Wild Tangents Provided By Me.

Performance artist Laurie Anderson began performing in New York in the 1970’s. In 1981 she had her first big hit with “Oh Superman” which reached number 2 on the UK charts. This video is from 1981 “Top Of Pops” episode. The internet tells me the song is about repressive government. I had no idea.

This song came to mind on Saturday because it was National Free Comic Book Day. (Is there any day in May that isn’t a holiday?) The Beautiful Girl and I made the Comic Book Store pilgrimage where we combined the power of my nerdiness with the force of her unstoppable cuteness and netted ourselves 8 free comic books plus an autographed Superman sketch! It turns out the kiddo and I are an unbeatable freebie acquisition duo. You mere mortals out there better be glad we only use our powers for good!
