RIP Gil Scott Heron

Gil Scott Heron passed away yesterday. He is often called the godfather of rap music because of his mix of percussion, singing and spoken word. Though is music was never mainstream, he was still an influential voice in the African-American civil rights struggle. The first video is a song called “The Bottle.” It’s from the 1974 album “Winter In America.”

The second song is called “Lady Day and John Coltrane.” It was released in 1971 on the album “Pieces Of A Man.”

RIP Mr. Heron
