This beautiful song was written by Luiz Bonfa with English lyric translation by Matt Dubey. It appears on Astrud Gilberto’s 1965 album “The Shadow Of Your Smile.” Note to self: I love the song “The Shadow Of Your Smile” and I haven’t listened to it in a while. I must remedy that immediately!
I love the sweet “let’s love each other’s hurt away” message of this song, but I doubt the folks on the east coast are seeing much romance in the rain right now. I have heard from all my east coast friends and family and thankfully, everyone is safe and sound. I hope everyone reading has had similar good news.
By the way, why are love songs so enamored with the idea of walking in the rain? What on earth is so romantic about flat hair and soggy shoes? Don’t get me wrong, I am not anti-precipitation. I’d just much rather be home, warm and dry enjoying the rain through the window from the comfort of my couch. If true love requires a high tolerance for dampness, I think I’ll probably have to stay happily single!
