The Muppets made their television debut in 1955 with a series of 5-minute shorts called “Sam And Friends.” They also appeared on “The Ed Sullivan Show” before they made their first appearance on “Sesame Street.” Today’s clip is from the 1978 “Muppet Show” series. I don’t see many Muppet blooper reels so this was a real treat. It’s got Muppets and music plus it’s pretty darn funny. I can’t imagine a better video to post on April 1!
Happy April Fool’s Day everyone!
Today is the second day of Kwanzaa and the principle we’re reflecting on is called Kujichagulia (koo-gee-cha-goo-LEE-ah) which has to be the best holiday word ever! It means self determination and the Beautiful Girl and I will celebrate by rocking out to this Will I Am song:
Ah Muppets, what *can’t* you teach us? I actually do listen to non-Muppet based music. In fact there are hardly any puppets in my CD/MP3 collection at all! I have no idea why, if left to my own devices, I will inevitably post a Muppet video here. Ah well, it doesn’t really matter why I suppose, Muppets are cool and that is that. But tomorrow I vow there shall be NO puppet videos on this blog! (It’ll be a cartoon instead.)
The scene is from “The Great Muppet Caper” (1981) and it was filmed in London’s Hyde Park. To this day no one (outside of the organization) knows how it was all done. They did give away one secret on a TV show I saw once. At the very end when all the Muppets are riding together, the bikes are attached to each other with tie rods and they are being pulled by a couple of tow trikes. If you pause at about 3:21 you can see a guy in a green shirt looking back. He’s riding one of the trikes.
I’m a HUGE Muppet fan but, oddly enough, I wasn’t all that fond of “Muppet Caper” the first time I saw it. I loved the music on “Sesame Street” and “The Muppet Show” and I wore out 2 or 3 tapes of the first “Muppet Movie” soundtrack. I had high expectations for the music in this movie but, for me, it just fell flat. I never even bought this soundtrack. I am glad I rewatched it though because, other than its musical blandness, it’s got everything else you could want in a Muppet movie. I am now a fan and I’m not the only one here on this forum. Check out cool homage made by my good friend and MSTie twin fifthrate!
I think his kerchief is very fetching don’t you? Oh wait, that’s me.
At the beginning of last month I vowed to blog every single day for 90 days which means I am blogging even on the days I’m traveling. Today I’m hitting the road with a good friend bound for St Louis. So here’s a quick post with some of my favorite a traveling music.
And now I better get out of bed and hit the shower!
