Sarah Vaughan

It’s probably cliche to say but my favorite song from the Gershwin Songbook is “Someone To Watch Over Me.” Even though, in practice, I’m much more the “let’s watch over each other” type, I still
find the sentiment touching.

This memorable song is from the forgettable 1933 musical “Pardon My
English.”  According to Wikipedia’s plot summary, it’s a reverse
prohibition farce where the hero gets amnesia and becomes embroiled in a love triangle/kidnapping plot… I did mention forgettable right?

The song, of course, is lovely. Here’s Sarah Vaughan in 1955.
